MEXICO CITY — Following its 2022 Bimbo Global Race, Grupo Bimbo announced it surpassed this year’s goal and will donate 6.8 million slices of bread to foodbanks worldwide.

For every person registered, Grupo Bimbo pledged to donate 20 slices of bread to fight world hunger, aligned with one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2).

“Thank you to all who decided to be part of this race, not only to be physically active themselves, but also for their desire to help our local communities,” said Alberto Levy, global VP of marketing, Grupo Bimbo after the race. “The result of their efforts reinforces our purpose at Grupo Bimbo to Nourish a Better World through actions and not just words.”

The hybrid race, held virtually in more than 100 locations and in-person in 15 cities across 10 countries, involved more than 341,000 participants. Among the top countries that participated in-person and virtually, China led the way with 162,000 participants, followed by Mexico with 28,000, Peru with more than 22,000, India with more than 20,000 and Spain with 18,000. The virtual option also permitted countries like Greenland, Papua New Guinea and Malaysia, among others, to participate.

With this race, Grupo Bimbo has donated over 23.7 million slices of bread over the past seven years to food banks in different countries.
