CHICAGO — Eli’s Cheesecake is celebrating the Democratic National Convention (DNC) with a monumental dose of sweetness in the form of two 1,000-pound cheesecakes.
“As one of Chicago’s and Illinois’ most famous foods for more than 40 years, we are thrilled to be a part of Chicago history by creating two giant celebratory cheesecakes for the Democratic National Convention welcome parties, especially because of Vice President Harris’ passion for cooking,” said Marc Schulman, president of Eli’s.
The first cake, decorated with placards from all 50 states, was served at the welcome party at Navy Pier on Saturday, August 17.
The Chicago-based baking company has a long history of making large festive cakes for events, including NASCAR’s first Chicago street race, Illinois’ bicentennial, the city of Chicago’s birthdays, and Obama and Clinton’s inaugurations.
By the end of the DNC, attendees will have enjoyed a total of approximately 5,400 pounds of Eli’s Chicago-style cheesecake.
