NEW ORLEANS — As part of the festivities at this year’s IDDBA event, held June 1-3 in New Orleans, Carmela Serebryany, IDDBA chair and president of Toronto-based Upper Crust, announced Boris Serebryany, CEO and president of Fiera Foods and Carmela’s father, as the recipient of the Chair’s Award.
The prestigious annual recognition, designated by the IDDBA board chair, honors an individual who has served as a mentor figure and been pivotal to the chair’s success.
“This year’s Chair’s Award goes to someone who has a unique talent for not only being respected but also beloved by his colleagues,” Carmela said. “He’s a born entrepreneur who has used his business acumen, charisma, engineering skills and a whole lot of hard work to help scale a manufacturing bakery business to greater heights than even he imagined, all while simultaneously being a present husband, father and grandfather.”
Boris has worked in the food manufacturing sector for more than 40 years. He co-founded Toronto-based Fiera Foods in 1987. The baking company has grown to offer an array of croissants, bagels, breads and rolls, puff pastries, and Danish to customers across the Americas, Asia and Europe.
His engineering background helped pioneer modern commercial baking, introducing processes and specialized equipment to create quality baked goods at scale.
